ז'אן לואי כהן (בגרמנית: Jean-Louis Cohen) (20 ביולי 1949 – 7 באוגוסט 2023) היה אדריכל והיסטוריון אדריכלות צרפתי שהתמחה באדריכלות מודרנית ובתכנון ערים. מאז 1994 הוא היה פרופסור להיסטוריה של האדריכלות במכון לאמנויות יפות של אוניברסיטת ניו יורק.

ביוגרפיה

ז'אן לואי כהן נולד ב-20 ביולי 1949 בפריז, והוכשר כאדריכל באסכולה המיוחדת לאדריכלות וביחידה פדגוגית מס' 6 בפריז. הוא סיים את לימודיו ב-1973, ולאחר מכן קיבל את הדוקטורט שלו באדריכלות בשנת 1979. הוא קיבל את הפוסט-דוקטורט בתולדות האמנות מבית הספר ללימודים גבוהים במדעי החברה ב-1985. לאחר שניהל את תוכנית המחקר האדריכלי במשרד השיכון הצרפתי, בין השנים 1983 ל-1996 הוא היה פרופסור מחקר בבית הספר לאדריכלות פריז-וילמין, ובין 1996 ל-2004 הוא היה פרופסור להיסטוריה של תכנון ערים במכון הצרפתי ד'אורבניזם, אוניברסיטת פריז. בשנת 1994 הוא מונה לתואר פרופסור לתולדות האדריכלות במכון לאמנויות היפות של אוניברסיטת ניו יורק, והוא הרצה רבות באוניברסיטאות בצפון אמריקה.

בשנת 1998 מונה לפתח את מוזיאון "עיר הארכיטקטורה והמורשת" בפריז, שנפתחה ב-2007. הוא היה מנהל הפרויקט עד לשנת 2003. במהלך הקריירה שלו אצר תערוכות רבות וחשובות, כולל "ההכוונה האבודה" במוזיאון לאמנות מודרנית (2007), "סצנות של העולם שיבוא", "אדריכלות במדים" ו-"בניית עולם חדש: אמריקניזם באדריכלות רוסית" במרכז הקנדי לאדריכלות (1995, 2011 ו-2019); "פריז-מוסקבה" (1979) והצגת המאה "הרפתקת לה קורבוזיה" (1987), במרכז ז'ורז' פומפידו; "לה קורבוזיה, סודות היצירה" במוזיאון פושקין במוסקבה (2012); "התנגשויות – אדריכלות, גרמניה, צרפת" במוזיאון לאמנות מודרנית ועכשווית של סטרסבורג ובמוזיאון לאדריכלות גרמני, פרנקפורט (2013) ו"לה קורבוזיה: האטלס של הנופים המודרניים" במוזיאון לאמנות מודרנית בניו יורק ב-2013. ב-2013 מונה גם לנציב הביתן הצרפתי לתערוכת האדריכלות הבינלאומית ה-14 (הביאנלה של ונציה, 2014).

לכהן הוענק תואר אביר מסדר האמנויות והספרות. בשנת 2001. הוא זכה במדליית 2003 לניתוח אדריכלי מטעם האקדמיה לאדריכלות ובפרס התאוריה לאדריכלות של פרס אריך שלינג בשנת 2010. שניים מספריו זכו בפרס הגדול לספרות מטעם האקדמיה לאדריכלות: Scènes de la vie future: l'architecture européenne et la tentation de l'Amérique 1893-1960 (1996) ו-Architecture en uniforme: projeter et construire pour la seconde guerre mondiale (2012). בשנת 2012 הוענק לו מענק אישי מקרן גרהם להוצאת ספרו הקרוב על מודרניזם אדריכלי צרפתי בהוצאת Reaktion Books. בשנת 2013 היה עמית של קרן ג'ון ס. גוגנהיים.

בשנת 2013 מונה לפרופסור לאדריכלות ולצורה עירונית במכון המחקר קולז' דה פראנס בפריז, תפקיד בו כיהן במשך שלוש שנים. בשנת 2021 הוא מונה לפרופסור אורח להיסטוריה של אדריכלות, פנלופה, באוניברסיטת סידני, אוסטרליה.
